5 Card Stud Instructions
An older game of poker, Five card Stud, is not fashionable with the bulk of those playing the game of poker these days (at casinos as well as at web based poker rooms), the game of Seven playing card Stud being a much more common kind of stud poker.
The poker game of Five card Stud is seen by many gamers as too simple a poker game to take seriously. To play the poker game Five card Stud you do the following:
- All those playing ante up before the cards are dealt (table limits establish the amount of the ante required).
- The dealer deals each person two playing cards, one face down (the ‘hole’ card) and one playing card face up.
- Beginning with the player displaying the highest value card a round of betting occurs.
- All players are given a further playing card, face up.
- More wagering occurs.
- Each player is dealt another card, face up.
- There’s another round of wagering, only now the smallest possible bet has been doubled.
- All competitors are given their final card, face up.
- The final round of wagering follows.
After the last betting round all remaining players display their completed hand, with the last person to raise displaying their cards first. The best poker hand wins the poker game and claims the pot.
Betting Note: The wagering method in Five Card Stud is different from that employed in Texas Hold’em and Omaha poker with the player displaying the best face up set of cards starting the wagering in the round . The betting then goes clockwise around the table, but the first bettor for every round can change as the best cards showing moves around the table.
